GUESTS REVIEWS

  • We used the Hotel as a base for exploring around parts of Montenegro. The Hotel is ideally situated in a central location in beautiful Budva providing easy access to bars and restaurants and also has next to it a very handy little supermarket for which to get bottled water and daytime snacks. The hotel is basically set into the rocky coastline and appears to have been tastefully extended over time. I have read comments about the colour scheme being too dark but my wife and I thought it was fine although a little too dark in places at night time, a few more lights would not go amiss.
Our room was villa 207 which was lovely and spacious and had great sea views over the old town. Living room upstairs and bedroom downstairs. Very quiet and suited us. Housekeeping are not very forthcoming with toilet rolls which was a little surprise!! Not something you normally need to ask for but there's always a first time!
Breakfasts were great and again suited us. Continental meats and cheeses, cereals, cooked foods and fruits. Something for everyone. The infuriating thing was the coffee machine queues, this needs a serious sort out!! Two machines for the whole hotel service is not good. This needs a serious rethink and is actually the only thing that the hotel can be criticised for but to go through the process each and every morning tends to put you in a bad mood for the day ahead.
I would recommend the hotel regardless of the coffee fiasco and would stay there again if I was in Budva. Great location, Good parking, Can highly recommend it.

  • This hotel was amazing. the photos on Thomson and on their own site do not do this hotel justice. Air con in the rooms is on all the time which is very much needed in the summer months. The bath was an absolute dream! The shower was a walk in shower which was unusual as there was a clear full length window right where you would grab your towel which you could see into from the beds but as we were a couple this wasn't a problem. You get plenty of wardrobe and cupboard space including a safe which I found was very handy. The balcony view wasn't much at all (we were in the third floor) but we weren't here to spend that much time in our room. One of the towel rails in the shower was falling off but we didn't needed to use it so it didn't affect us. The beds were extremely comfortable. The outside pool was stunning as was the beach area. Remember when you are checking in to ask for your towel cards, this allows you to get fresh towels for the pool,or the beach (there is a station at both). The concierge and the waiters were all so so polite and went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. The food was a bit hit and miss but I got the feeling they aren't used to catering for British people so we would find the selection strange however all the other guests seemed to really be enjoying it. every meal time there was something to eat though and there's plenty of restaurants near by. Locations was perfect. Right by the old town which is great, by the marina too so you can catch a water taxi to the island or to a quieter beach, I recommend Mali. We used a man in taxi boat BD26, he was fabulous. All in all, this hotel was great. I found the people who had a problem with this hotel were used to a set kind of standard and weren't that polite to the workers, as soon as we said thank you or please to any of the workers they seemed to instantly relax around us. Montenegro is fab, it feels so undiscovered and pure, it hasn't been westernised at all which is great. Don't expect to see or hear many British people here at all. The transfer took a while as we flew to Dubrovnik airport but the place was so worth it. The hotel needs to maybe have a look at the little things in the room to make sure everything is as it should be but honestly those things didn't bother me at all as we were there to explore. Cannot fault the staff at all, they were so pleasant. They have their own restaurant called Bruno's which we ate at twice and the food was insane, very enjoyable.. There's also a spa which we used once as it was by the indoor pool but we didn't have any treatments. We also had an early pick up time on our departure and we asked for a breakfast box which they provided, another little touch which made our stay most pleasant. We would definitely visit again 10/10.
Stayed August 2016, traveled as a couple Amazing

  • We stayed at the Avala hotel for a week on the 9th June, booked as part of a package holiday with Balkan Holidays. We had considered travelling with Thomson, the only thing that put us off was the flight to Dubrovnik which meant a 2-3 hour transfer to Budva. Tivat airport (easyjet flight) is much closer. Having said that, we didn't find the Balkan rep very helpful!
The Hotel was lovely, clean & modern. Although some reviewers have commented on the 'gloomy look' I thought it was tastefully decorated in a style & colour palette deliberatly in contrast to the brightness outdoors. It created a cool sanctuary on a very hot day! We only stayed on a bed & breakfast basis but the breakfast food was very nice, with plenty of choice.
The best feature of the hotel however is its location, situated next to a beach and right beside the walled old town. We almost chose a different hotel in Becici but are glad we chose The Avala instead. The old town area is lovely, very picturesque (unlike some other parts of Budva). There were plenty of restaurants to chose from, all serving good food. Although it may prove cheaper to eat away from the Old Town & Marina area, we felt the atmosphere & surroundings were well worth staying put for. Prices were not bad anyway.
Our room was cleaned to a high standard and the beds comfy. My only slight grumble would be noise from the corridors & the sound of the elevator beeping! (as our room was located just opposite the lift). We booked a sea view room and were not disappointed by the stunning view of the Ocean & Old Town.
We planned a couple of trips to Kotor & elswhere......I would strongly advise anyone wanting a taxi to book it through reception. They use a good value company (VIP Taxis), unlike another firm we used once, that charged more than double for the same journey!
Overall we would highly recommend the Avala as a base for your stay in Budva. Lovely hotel in a fantastic location
